Welcome. I am Vanessa, the artist and designer who created Rosie Mae.

So why another name?

I had my heart broken. This was the ultimate douche-bag break-up. I decided to dedicate every ounce of emotion into different forms of art. What emerged, from trial and error, was the best of me. Rosie Mae was created. I decided a name, outside the birth name, would represent my art and my travels.

Rosalie is a name dear to my heart and my family. Homage to my great-grandmother, I chose her nickname, Rosie. Mae came from an ‘A League of Their Own’ character.

So why the privacy?

I am a private individual. Social media can allow a person to be anyone desired. I am unsettled by how much is showcased, how much approval is needed, how much of a fan base is craved. I'm not a Kardashian. I love Instagram and picture story-telling, but to my family and friends (who are scattered all over the world). I enjoy being up-to-date on their lives, but I don't feel the rest of the world needs to know my personal enjoyments, motherhood, or private let downs. I'm blogging for the art and travel only.

The social media world is very uneasy, so my personal life is kept secured and private.

So why a blog?

California is my backyard. It is beautifully cultured. I plan crazy adventures from weekend excursions to day trips. I look for free attractions, events, or a local coffee shop to sit and draw. Everyday, I get asked about my travels, my photography, my artwork, my concepts, my interests. Since blogging is a form of art, here is a chance to freely express creatively and let the audience view a world through my eyes.
