Magic Sands Beach

In Kailua Kona, is the popular Magic Sands Beach (aka White Sands or La`aloa Beach). Each night, this magical beach disappears exposing boulders of lava rock (some days more dramatic than others depending on the season). Gradually the sand returns, the next day, creating a beautiful beach.

I walked along Ali`i Drive towards Magic Sands to watch the sunset, as I have been told is the most scenic here in Kailua Kona.

To the left of the beach, past the bathroom and showers, a large wall of lava rock sits. Locals and tourists sat gazed at the horizon to wait for the sun to disappear over the edge. If you pay attention to the horizon, a green line will appear, as soon as the sun descends. Naturally, I missed it. Haha.

Before the sun set, I had a chance to soak my body in the warm ocean waters of Hawai`i. I have never dived under waves before and became entertainment for the tourists, most definitely.

Being my first time... what did I learn? Go out in the waters as far as comfort allows and DIVE DIVE DIVE! Apparently, I forgot how?? What grown ass adult holds their nose like a child?? ME!! How did I forgot how to hold my breath under water?? Basically, I forgot to swim. Children were like, "move bitch get out of the way."

The swells have been a bit larger this time of year, mesmerizing tourists. I am not saying, "the waves made me forgot the basics of swimming." They are still very powerful and dangerous.

But yes... it was the waves fault. Haha.

With smiles, laughter, and a belly of salt water, I managed to survive. My bikini bottoms looked like a toddler's sagged soaked diaper, as I brought home the entire Magic Sands beach.
