A little cute winery off the S River Road in Clarksburg, Ca with a family friendly backyard BBQ vibe.

I decided to partake in a "Solo Day Date." First stop was my son's baseball game, followed by, a trip to see my newborn cousins. Ugh, I could have spent all day holding babies! Part 3 of the date was wine tasting. Sugar Mill in Clarksburg, Ca was the destination.

My goal was to have a nice romantic solo date. I even wore heels, a dress, hoops, and lipstick!

Upon my drive, I began being distracted by cute little red heart roadside signage and balloons, which encouraged wine enthusiasts to detour. BUT, my mind was set of Sugar Mill. I parked my car in the overfilled parking lot (the area where dirt and water meet to make mud). A crowded winery was NOT on the agenda and it looked that way. Then I remembered, "LIVE MUSIC!"

I would rather spend my day listening to music, versus standing awkwardly in a crowded winery. So, I backed out the muddy lot and drove the 5 miles to Julietta's Winery.

I was greeted by a young woman who offered to pour 5 tastings for $10. Ok! I'm not a wine connoisseur and go to tastings all the time. I basically listen to lectures on how to 'properly taste,’ and the obvious... to get drunk. I have no interest in buying a bottle or being on the preferred client membership. If I do, it’s me drinking the bottle on the way to the next winery. Yeah, I am bad. But, wine is not my cup of tea and tastes more like cherry grape flavored Kool-Aid.

I was poured a glass of 2018 Sauvignon Blanc - Alexander Valley New Release for $6.50 a glass. It was tasteful, light, and a good choice on a hot spring day in May. The description read, Aromas of summer grass, yellow plum... A perfect summer sipper. That was correct for sure.

Sitting outside on this Saturday afternoon at Julietta's Winery, the live music was old county and classic rock jams... wait... I hear ’Stir It Up’ by Bob Marley. Yes! The winery has that backyard BBQ-family gathering vibe. I felt like I was in my grandmother's backyard with the 2 large covered patios, large wooden doors, a patio under a tree, and a large grassy area. When you walk up, there are cobbled stones, rose bushes along side and 2 rod iron benches. Perfect romantic spot to get lost in. Man, I need a boyfriend!

I may not be a wine connoisseur. BUT, I can write about the atmosphere and environment where I felt so at ease with life. Julietta's Winery helped make my solo date a great getaway.

XO- R. Mae
