Ola Brewery

In Kona, Hawai`i, you can ride the Kona Trolley for $2 a ride to a number of stops along Ali`i Drive. The schedule is pretty detailed and lists the drivers are very welcoming to all tourists and locals. Its a nicer way to fight traffic and get to around without paying for parking.

Before heading to Ola Brewery, I stopped at 4Good Thrift on Luhia Street, across from Ola, to do a bit of shopping. The thrift store has local made products and consignment. It was a nice stop, since the trolley would arrive back about 2 hours from now. Ha!

Ola was a exactly what I expected, that hipster bar vibe with an Aloha twist. he bartender greeted me with smiles and friendly conversation about how the brewery was started and recommendations for my sampler.

I ordered the Rambutan Jabuticaba, Luhia Pale Ale, Ma'a Island Lager, and the Porter Kiawe & Vanilla.

Rambutan Jabuticaba ABV 6.0% - It tasted like a very lighter version of kombucha beer: minus the kombucha. This, by far, is my favorite. It is light, flavorful, and has a cherry/strawberry back taste. I am a cider fan, 100%, so I will be bias! Hahaha.

Luhia Pale Ale ABV 6.5% - For some reason, all pale ale taste the same. I like the Luhia, very much, but it tasted like others I have tried before. It had flavor and enjoyable. I just wish, there was more to write about the Luhia. Sorry.

Ola Brewery Sampler

Ma'a Island Lager ABV 5.% - Honestly, I am not a fan.. Every lager leaves a tangy taste, as soon as it hits my lips. It is almost sour like. The more sips, the more I hate it. Haha. Not sure why IPA was written, in the picture, when the board clearly stated Lager.

Porter Kiawe & Vanilla ABV 6.8% - Each time I tasted a porter beer, I get this dark coffee kind of back taste. It always takes me a couple more sips for me to fully enjoy. This porter is definitely rich with a mixture of flavors and very very enjoyable. I am not a coffee drinker nor a fan either, but I do love this Porter! I went back to Ola another time and ordered only this!
